Connectivity of the Hexagonal, Cubic, and Isotropic Phases of the C12EO6/H2O Lyotropic Mixture Investigated by Tracer Diffusion and X-ray Scattering

چکیده
The connectivity of the hydrophobic medium in the nonionic binary system C12EO6/H2O is studied by monitoring the diffusion constants of tracer molecules at the transition between the hexagonal mesophase and the fluid isotropic phase. The increase in the transverse diffusion coefficient on approaching the isotropic phase reveals the proliferation of bridge-like defects connecting the surfactant cylinders. This suggests that the isotropic phase has a highly connected structure. Indeed, we find similar diffusion coefficients in the isotropic and cubic bicontinuous phases. The temperature dependence of the lattice parameter in the hexagonal phase confirms the change in connectivity close to the hexagonal–isotropic transition. Finally, an X-ray investigation of the isotropic phase shows that its structure is locally similar to that of the hexagonal phase. Synthesis of Boron-Aluminum Nitride Thin Film by Chemical Vapour Deposition Using Gas Bubbler
Boron included aluminium nitride (B-AlN) thin films were synthesized on silicon (Si) substrates through chemical vapour deposition ( CVD ) at 773 K (500 °C). tert-buthylamine (tBuNH2) solution was used as nitrogen source and delivered through gas bubbler. B-AlN thin films were prepared on Si-100 substrates by varying gas mixture ratio of three precursors. The structural properties of the films ...
متن کاملStructural Transition in the Isotropic Phase of the C12EO6/H2O Lyotropic Mixture: A Rheological Investigation
We study the structural changes occurring in the isotropic phase of the C12EO6/H2O lyotropic mixture (up to 35% surfactant weight concentration) upon increasing the concentration and temperature, from small individual micelles to an entangled network which subsequently becomes connected. High-frequency (up to ω = 6 10 rad/s) rheological measurements give us access to the viscoelastic relaxation...
متن کاملA STUDY OF GAMMA RAY EXPOSURE BUILDUP FACTORS IN STRATIFIED SHIELDS FOR POINT ISOTROPIC SOURCES, INCLUDING THE EFFECTS OF INCOHERENT AND COHERENT SCATTERING
The effects of including incoherent (bound-electron) and coherent (Rayleigh) scattering in exposure buildup factor calculations for point isotropic gamma ray sources, penetrating a two-layer water-lead shield have been investigated in the gamma ray energy (E?) range of 40 keV to 3 MeV. Incoherent scattering decreases the values of these factors in both layers up to E? ~ 200 keV and the effect i...
متن کاملDistinguishing bicontinuous lipid cubic phases from isotropic membrane morphologies using (31)P solid-state NMR spectroscopy.
Nonlamellar lipid membranes are frequently induced by proteins that fuse, bend, and cut membranes. Understanding the mechanism of action of these proteins requires the elucidation of the membrane morphologies that they induce. While hexagonal phases and lamellar phases are readily identified by their characteristic solid-state NMR line shapes, bicontinuous lipid cubic phases are more difficult ...
متن کاملPolymorphism of Ganglioside-Water Systems: a New Class of Micellar Cubic Phases. Freeze-Fracture Electron Microscopy and X-Ray Scattering Studies
The (T, c)-dependent phase diagrams of two gangliosides, GM I and GM I(acetyl), have been explored, in spite of the frequent occurrence of metastable states. In GMT two lamellar, one hexagonal and two cubic (aspects ( 5 and 13) phases were identified, in addition to the isotropic micellar solution. In GMT(acetyl) two of the phases are cubic (aspects 8 and 13), one is the fluid isotropic solutio...
